I broke down and finally bought one of these, along with the small portable air purifier. I've used this unit for a few months now and feel more confident about the air that circulates in my home. Finding the perfect place to set it up was challenging given that our home is an "open air" home (both the main and top floors are not closed off by a door, and the stairs are right in the center of the home). It is suggested that the unit sits near the ceiling and away from any air intakes. I believe I found a good place up stairs, in a room where the door stays open at all times. I enjoy the clean smell in the air that seems to be omitted by the purifier, but the hubs thinks it smells like chlorine. In this case, I adjust the fan and square footage at times to accommodate that. In other words, this is not a unit that you set and forget. When the unit's plate needs attention (cleaning), the unit shows it on the digital display, but doesn't shut off. It's important to have it somewhere you will frequently see it to keep an eye on it. Given the fact that our skies are now being polluted with who knows what, this gives me a peace of mind that I am doing what I can in an environment where I spend most of my time--my home--and I'm not spending more money on filters that just pollute the land. This unit is pricey, but then what kind of price do you put on your health?
