Why use cloth bags?
Damp cloth bags keep moisture-loving vegetables moist and crisp in a high humidity environment. Moisture slowly evaporates from the surface of the bag to keep both the bag and the vegetables “breathing.” A slightly moist bag keeps vegetables crisp, often several days beyond storage in either a crisper drawer or plastic bag.Why not plastic?
Plastic bags and containers keep moisture in, but they do not allow vegetables to breathe. This sets up an environment that promotes rotting. We’ve all picked through slimy spinach or pulled plastic bags from the crisper drawer that are full of limp carrots or yellowed broccoli. Vejibag prevents this type of rotting. How to Use it
1. Wet & Wring
Vejibags establish a moist, breathable environment for your produce. To begin, wet the bag and then wring it out so that it is just damp. Note: You’ll want to wash your bag before you use it the first time.
2. Rinse & Shake
Rinse your vegetables carefully, remove any damaged areas, and then gently shake off any excess water. If you're washing lettuces or greens, there's no need to spin. Let your Vejibag do the work!
3. Store & Enjoy
Store in the main compartment of your refrigerator or in a slightly opened crisper drawer. When the bag dries out after several days, re-wet slightly by running it briefly under the faucet, vegetables and all.

FAQ:
- How do Vejibags work?
Just like cut flowers, vegetables need water to stay vibrant. The key to keeping veggies crisp is moisture. When damp, the cloth Vejibag keeps moisture-loving vegetables moist and crisp in a breathable but high humidity environment. Moisture slowly evaporates from the surface of the bag to circulate air and keep the vegetables “breathing.” The slightly moist environment of the bag keeps vegetables crisp far longer than vegetables stored in a plastic bag.
- How often do I need to re-moisten my Vejibags?
That depends on where you live and how humid or dry your refrigerator is. Usually a moist bag will stay moist easily for four or five days.
- How do I care for my Vejibags?
VEJIBAGS ARE MACHINE WASHABLE AND DRYABLE
Turn Vejibags inside out and launder with fragrance free detergent. Hang in the sun to dry or machine dry, expect 10% shrinkage the first time as this is a 100% cotton bag!
If your bag gets stained you can safely remove most stains with an oxygen bleach or make your own environmentally friendly stain remover solution with 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 2 Tablespoons of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda. Add enough hot water to the hydrogen peroxide/washing soda solution to cover bag and let sit 24 hours.
- Why aren't Vejibags cheaper?
Vejibags are an extremely durable, 100% U.S. and ethically produced item. This means that from the planting of organic cottonseed through the growing, harvest and milling processes, and finally the construction process, they provide well-paying work for Americans. In addition, using U.S. Organic cotton eliminates the toxic downsides of conventionally-grown cotton and the significantly higher carbon footprint of imported goods. In the long run Vejibags still save their users time and money over plastic storage by eliminating both the money waste and time hassle of dealing with rotten vegetables. And Vejibags are made to last for years.
Testimonials
“Here is something awesome! I bought these greens *reduced* on May 12, which means the store thought they were ready to go slimy. I put them in my Vejibag. TWO WEEKS LATER-still fresh and crisp! Vejibags work!!!!” -Dana Reitman
“Great product that keeps the salad greens really fresh all week, we love it!” -David Salmon, Larchmont, NY
“Having owned restaurants makes me critically aware of the costs associated with food spoilage. Now, with just my wife and I, it is not unusual to need to buy a greater quantity than we actually need for a single meal. So storage becomes an important factor in buying decisions. The VEJIBAG will now allow me to buy a quantity of salad greens, herbs and other vegetables confident they will stay in pristine condition. I was literally amazed as I was eating salad greens stored for over a week in the VEJIBAG. They retained their crispness and color like the day purchased. A great product that will save you money. I own three now.” -David Roth, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
“On February 2nd, I filled three Vejibags with organic field greens, put them in the frig and…… totally fresh and crisp field greens on February 10 when I finished the last bag. Not even one piece of arugula was icky! I now have all five of the bags I bought filled with field greens, cucumber, red and yellow peppers, and broccoli. It is such a relief to know everything will stay fresh until I eat it all! Before I always felt so guilty for wasting food. It’s cheaper to buy larger quantities, but so sad to see it go bad within just a couple of days. No More Vegetable Guilt! Yay! Thank you so very much.” -Liag Zeppetello, Buffalo, New York
“I just washed my first Vejibag, after ridding it of its load of organic romaine. It had been in the fridge for several days past a week last night…The bag was still damp, the lettuce crisp, and, except for some brown spots along the spine (which I tore out), it made a lovely salad!”
“Here’s the latest: We left for CA. for a week. I had celery and 2 different kinds of lettuces in Vejibags. Although after 3 weeks the bags had dried out, the celery was still crisp as was the iceberg lettuce. I imagine the romaine would have been good if the bag had stayed damp…..Is this a miracle or what? Celery may last 5 weeks as long as it’s damp. Isn’t this great?” -April Mullins, Nashville, TN and Eastport, ME
